Kevin Albert

(b. 1951)

Born March 6, 1951, Kevin Albert calls Maui, Hawaii, home. Luscious in its landscaping and welcoming to the eye, the tropical terrain of the Hawaiian Islands greatly influenced Albert in his decision to train as a professional landscape painter. At one with nature, he studied its myriad colors, shapes, textures and changing personality. Landscape painting came easy, and with this in his favor he left the Islands to follow a more definite direction at the progressive art schools in California.

By the end of his college training he had mastered the basics of art, with special focus on classical and modern painting. Graduating with a degree in drawing and painting, he was experimental with his compositions, undecided as to a specific style.

To broaden his skills he joined a team of illustrators involved with a five-year project to produce more than 150 originally composed works. This gave him invaluable training painting landscapes, figuratives, and architecturally oriented compositions. With this strong background he was able to enter a six-year program to study European art. Traveling overseas in 1980, he visited Western Europe, touring museums, the major monuments and other important landmarks. Finally he settled in Italy where he would learn intimately the secrets and traditions of "plein air" painting, that unique style developed and mastered by the early European Impressionists.

Living in the countryside near Florence, the following six years provided Albert unlimited subject matter and unrestrained inspiration. Looking to the countryside for color and atmosphere, the local artists taught him how to transfer these colors onto canvas. He learned numerous ways to mix color and "light", enriching his already astute knowledge. Working in association with such famed artists as Fiume, Sassone and Cascella, he learned new ways of "seeing" color as well as "feeling" it. His paintings gained the added dimension of emotion, as if they breathed life of their own. Becoming a realistic/impressionistic painter, his technique reflected the aura of his European surroundings. Albert made frequent trips to Paris, and here he continued to absorb the concepts and precepts of the great impressionist painters. Very often he turned to the River Seine as his focal point or theme.

Today Albert lives in California. His pieces are vibrant, poetic and enduring. Each reflects the softness and suppleness of nature. His work is truly captivating, full of movement and undeniably the product of a creative mind.
