Neil Boyle

(Canadian)

Neil Boyle, originally from Fort MacLeod in Alberta, Canada, grew up in Indian country. His father, an honorary chief of the Blood and Peigan tribes of Canada’s Blackfoot Confederacy, handed down a knowledge of Indian life and history that colors Boyle’s paintings of the early west with unusual authenticity.

A commercial illustrator for over twenty years, Boyle now re-creates scenes from the past in oils, bronze sculpture and limited edition etchings. Before devoting full time to western art, Neil traveled South East Asia, Europe and the United States at the request of the United States Federal Art Program; adding over 30 documentary paintings to the permanent educational collections at the Smithsonian Institute and Pentagon building in Washington, D.C.

Boyle took his education at the Banff School of Fine Arts in Alberta, Canada and at Chouinard Art Institute and Art Center School of Design Los Angeles. He has since taught at both schools in Los Angeles and has held associate professorships at the University at California at Long Beach and Northridge. His vibrant oils and vigorous bronzes have gained the reputation as some of the finest in American art. His talents have been widely acclaimed and his work can be found in many private and corporate collections around the world. Boyle recently completed commission for Mount Sinai Cemetery in Glendale, California that depicts the history of the Jewish people in America from 1655 to the present. The finished painting has been sent to Italy where it is being converted into a mosaic tile mural containing approximately 12 million pieces of venetian glass and will measure 146 feet long by 28 feet high. The process will take about a year and a half to complete.

Simic Galleries is proud to present the works of the masterful western artist, Neil Boyle.
