(Argentine, b. 1932)
Liliana Frasca was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina in
1932, to a family of artists; thus, her innate artistic talents were nurtured from an
extremely young age. Growing up amidst her familys richly creative environment,
Frasca was particularly influenced by her Uncle Ernesto Altini, an artist and restorer at
the Museo de Bellas Artes in Buenos Aires as well as at New Yorks Metropolitan
Museum. It was clear even when Frasca was but a small child that she was destined for a
career in the fine arts.
The year 1961 marked Frascas emigration to Europe where, after
settling, she painted in earnest and thus continued to develop her technique in oils. In
1966, she and her family relocated to Southern California. Frasca continued to paint while
teaching French language courses at the International School of Languages in Beverly
Hills. Soon, however, her driving need to paint full-time and the publics demand for
her art led her to devote herself exclusively to painting.
Although Frasca interprets what she sees in her own, ingenious way, her
land and seascapes hold incredibly true to the original any well-traveled person
can quickly recognize the location. Whether it is a vividly colored Bougainvillea clinging
to an Italian villa with the mesmerizing blue Mediterranean waters as the backdrop, or an
enchanting view of Positano village on the Amalfi coast near Capri Island, the viewer is
riveted to a certain visual paradise. Of poetic vitality, Frascas works that are
executed with a palette knife are profound in texture and color.
In her quest to discover and re-discover breathtaking sites to emblazon
her canvas, Frasca has explored the most captivating spots of Italy, Spain, France,
Portugal and the United States. She has been honored with many one-woman shows, and in
1976, her works were exhibited at the California Museum of Science and Industry at
Exposition Park in Los Angeles. In preparation for this show entitled "California
Forever," the artist traveled to Californias most exquisite locations: so
inspired was Frasca that she created 35 landscape paintings. Liliana Frasca currently
resides in Southern California.
