Fred Lucas was born in Tacoma, Washington, and it was
realized very early that he had great artistic talents. At the age of nine, he was placed
under the tutorship of a skilled fine arts artist. This tutorship lasted five years and he
learned a great amount in that time. Lucas obtained additional training by being enrolled
at the Famous Artist Schools of Westport, Connecticut.
While living in Las Vegas, Nevada, and later, the Rio Grande valley in
New Mexico, Fred continued his studies and exposure to the works of master painters,
western life and literature. This was the time and the settings that influenced his
direction in art the most. Lucas was drawn to enter a career as a full time southwest
landscape artist. His first gallery exhibitions were in Santa Fe and Scottsdale in 1972.
Since that time, Fred Lucas has become one of Americas leading fine art
painters of the Grand Canyon and the American West. His breath taking oils have hung in
the White House, the Arizona State Capitol, major hotels, museums and prestigious
galleries throughout the United States. Lucas is also known as an international artist
with works hanging in over twenty-five different foreign countries.

future generations.
