Tim Solliday
(American)
Tim Solliday resides in Southern California in the
foothills of the San Gabriel Mountains. Inspired early in life by his
artist father, Tim won his first art competition at the age of fourteen,
thus providing the confidence and resolve to choose art as his life work.
His first artistic endeavors as an adult were in commercial art,
billboards, and the motion picture industry. During this time, he
discovered and studied with noted painter, T. N. Lukits at the Academy of
Fine Art. It is here that Tim honed his exceptional skills and solidified
his goal of capturing beauty on canvas in the plein air style.
Tim Solliday was featured in numerous magazines, including Southwest
Art, Art Talk, International Artist, and American Artist. He was also the
subject of a front page Los Angeles Times feature.
Among the group exhibitions to seek his work are; The Los Angeles
County Natural History Museum’s “The Treasures of the Sierra Nevada”;
Frederick R. Weisman Museum of Art, Malibu, California; Carnegie Art
Museum, Oxnard, California; and the Jonathan Art Foundation, Los Angeles,
California. In addition The Fine Arts Club of Pasadena hosted a solo
exhibition for Tim at the Athenaeum Club of the California Institute of
Technology in Pasadena.
Tim Solliday has participated in the Laguna Beach Plein Air
Invitational since its inception, placing second and third in 2001 and
2000, respectively. He also placed first in the Landscape category of the
1993 Oil Painters of America competition, as well as in the California Art
Club’s 86th Annual Gold Medal Exhibition.
His passion for the outdoors and his masterful recreation of authentic
outdoor light have made him one of the best known artists in the field of
landscape art. He is now enjoying a nationwide reputation, and several of
his paintings are in the personal collection of Oprah Winfrey.
